Key Insights
2,201 installations mapped across India:
Data from 13 technology partners captures a cumulative 2,201 heat pump installations—1,063 industrial and 1,138 commercial & residential installations—representing 288 MW of installed thermal capacity.
Penetration across 25 industrial sectors:
Industrial heat pumps are penetrating diverse sectors and processes. Automobile leads with 639 installations, followed by pharmaceuticals with 182 and chemicals with 104. The Atlas also records deployment across FMCG, food & beverage, textile, electronics, agriculture and other sectors, covering 25 industrial sectors in total.
Breaking the 100°C barrier:
The Atlas maps 34 high-temperature heat pump installations operating at ≥100°C. Automobile shows the largest penetration in this temperature range, with applications extending up to 135°C. Textile records the highest temperature at 140°C for hot-air applications, with additional deployments at 100°C, 120°C and 135°C, demonstrating an expanding temperature envelope for industrial heat pumps.
Commercial & residential adoption continues to dominate:
Commercial and residential applications continue to demonstrate strong heat pump adoption, particularly for hot-water applications such as bathing and hot showers, washing, kitchen and cooking requirements, swimming-pool heating, drying and other thermal applications. The Atlas records 1,138 installations representing about 44 MWth, with temperatures reaching up to 90°C, in this segment.
Heat pumps in all directions:
The Atlas shows heat pump deployment across North, South, East, West and North-East India. South leads with 1,567 installations (71%), while the West accounts for 556 installations (25%) and demonstrates a strong industrial process-heat ecosystem. North India shows increasing diversification, while East and North-East India represent emerging markets with significant headroom for future deployment.
