BACKGROUND

Effluents from industry are an important source to environmental problems. If not treated, these effluents from industrial production will be polluting the ground water or water reserves which can be dangerous and harmful for the environment as communities mainly use this water for drinking purpose. Therefore it is important to treat the effluent from industries in a proper way.

The present project aims to reduce the waste water and other emissions generated at the source itself by implementing cleaner production measures. Thus preventing environment from being damaged and give better access to clean water.

With this objective CII, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Gamana, JNTU and EPTRI have signed a MoU for Capacity building on cleaner production of industries in the Hyderabad region. This project is supported by SIDA (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency).

ABOUT PROJECT

The overall purpose of the project is to develop a holistic approach to sustain the water resources in the Hyderabad region covering, with focus on industrial emissions and effluents that effect the communities and surface water. The project will show how to implement solutions for cleaner production in different industries which can contribute to an improved environmental situation and sustainable water use. The following are the steps involved in project implementation:

  • Identification of target industries in Hyderabad
  • Preliminary plant visit by team to study and understand the overall process
  • Identification of cases/opportunities for possible cleaner production solutions
  • Collection and mapping of existing data and need for additional measurements
  • Sample collection, analysis and pilot plant experiments
  • Equipment setup and demonstration on cleaner production solutions
